In the soft gold of a late-summer afternoon, a freshly pulled carrot lies across a cedar board, earth still clinging to its bright orange skin. Yet its roots do not taper into thin strands; instead they descend into inverted mountain peaks—sharp, jagged, and etched with delicate topographic lines. Through Cartographic Surrealism, the simple root vegetable becomes an entire landscape, connecting soil to summit in a single breathtaking form.
The carrot’s upper half remains familiar: smooth orange skin, faint horizontal ridges, and leafy green stems that fan outward with vibrant energy. But below the midpoint, the transformation begins. The roots widen, bend, and twist, reshaping themselves into miniature ranges textured with snow-like dustings of soil. Fine white lines trace elevation contours across the peaks, spiraling around ridges and dropping into valleys as if mapping real terrain. The deeper the root extends, the more the mountain shapes sharpen, suggesting hidden worlds beneath the surface.
The environment amplifies the surreal blend. The cedar board beneath the carrot bears deep knife marks that resemble fault lines. Soil shaken loose from the root settles into tiny dunes around the mountain shapes, hinting at erosion and passage of time. • Dry: Hang dry is preferred to "cure" the fit. Tumble dry on low if necessary.
• Iron: Never iron the design directly.
