THE ARTIFACT: ROOTED RIVER

A surreal landscape of a Douglas Fir whose roots transform into a rushing blue river, blending forest and water into a single flowing ecosystem.
Along the edge of a lush valley, where morning fog moves like drifting gauze across the treetops, a massive Douglas Fir rises from the earth with the quiet authority of centuries. Its trunk is wide and furrowed, bearing the deep ridges carved by storms and seasons. Yet below the moss-wrapped base, something unusual begins to unfold. In this surreal landscape rendering, the roots of the ancient tree stretch outward and downward—but instead of disappearing into the soil, they transform into a river, bright and restless, cascading over stones in a rush of blue and silver.
The transition is subtle at first: a glint of water along a root’s curve, a faint shift in color. Then, with painterly confidence, the artist allows the transformation to bloom fully—the fibrous texture of rootwood dissolving into rippling currents that catch the valley light. The river flows with the energy of early spring snowmelt, its surface alive with reflections of sky and towering firs overhead. The Douglas Fir remains anchored and unmoving, yet its presence shapes the water’s path, as though the tree breathes life into the current.

Preserving the Artifact
To maintain the integrity of the fiber density and the fidelity of the print, we recommend the following protocol:

• Wash: Machine wash cold with like colors. Turn the garment inside out to protect the artwork.
• Dry: Hang dry is preferred to "cure" the fit. Tumble dry on low if necessary.
• Iron: Never iron the design directly.
