THE ARTIFACT: THE MOREL CITY

A surreal study of a giant morel mushroom whose honeycomb folds transform into tiny windowed dwellings, turning a forest delicacy into a hidden vertical city.
In the cool shade of springtime understory, a single morel mushroom rises from the moss, tall and textured like a miniature tower. The painting leans into surreal blend, taking the distinctive honeycomb cap and gently shifting its geometry until it becomes a vertical neighborhood—each pocket morphing into a tiny window, some softly illuminated from within. The stem anchors the structure firmly in the soil, while the upper form suggests a secret world tucked inside a familiar forest form.
The morel’s surface is richly detailed: umbers, olives, and golden browns layered in careful brushstrokes to create depth within each hollow. Small balconies seem to emerge from certain folds, hinted at rather than fully defined, and perhaps the faintest silhouettes of life inside flicker behind some windows—a warm interior glow against the damp forest air. The surroundings are rendered with soft focus: a blurred suggestion of fallen needles, bits of bark, and other mushrooms still in their natural state, reinforcing the surreal transformation at the center.

To maintain the integrity of the fiber density and the fidelity of the print, we recommend the following protocol:

• Wash: Machine wash cold with like colors. Turn the garment inside out to protect the artwork.
• Dry: Hang dry is preferred to "cure" the fit. Tumble dry on low if necessary.
• Iron: Never iron the design directly.
